Alpha

The Alpha course is a 10-week, interactive introduction to the Christian faith. The format for the course is a weekly meeting during which the participants share a meal and then view a 40-minute video about a specific topic. Examples of the types of topics covered include:

  • Who is Jesus?
  • Can I be sure of my faith?
  • How and why should I pray?

After the video, the participants engage in a discussion in order to further examine that week's topic. The Alpha series has been proven time and again around the world to provide the information people are looking for about the Christian faith. More information about the series is available at www.alphacourse.org.

Although Alpha is considered an introduction to Christianity, we find that people from every level of spiritual maturity learn something from taking the course. Many people who take this course are pleasantly surprised to find that Christianity can stand up to close scrutiny.

When asked to define faith, a child once said, “It's believing in something you know isn't true.” Unfortunately, many adults, if pressed, probably hold this view of Christianity. They are afraid that if they look too closely, their beliefs will have no substance and that, in the words of one philosopher, they must make an “irrational leap of faith.” The truth is that there are good, rational arguments behind our Christian beliefs. Hearing a logical, well-reasoned presentation of these beliefs can be a faith-building experience.
